Group 81 began with a focus on providing Forward Electronics and Combat System engineering, analytical, and technical support services to the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), and to the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division (NUWCDIV) Newport Rhode Island for Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) capable surface ships and submarines.
